Clowning Around Have you always wanted to be a clown? Come learn the basics of American Clowning. Students and teachers will learn how to communicate a comedic story to a big top-sized crowd, develop a clown routine, and execute several pratfalls during this stupendous workshop.
Acting through the Voice and Body Students will engage in a series of exercises that create awareness vocally and physically as well as build strength and healthy habits as we explore the instrument of the actor: the actor him/herself.
Artistic Design on a Budget Is a limited budget bringing down the quality of your productions? Come learn how to create stunning scenic, prop and costume designs on a limited budget. Teachers and students are invited to participate in this informative and hands-on workshop.
Audition Skills & Perfecting The Performance for Musical Theatre:Back by popular demand! Come join Broadway veteran and state judge Nancy Nisenson for this exciting workshop that proves to be an hour of learning and fun for all. This incredible master class will explore all the tricks of the trade and will offer tools for dealing with the process of auditioning (how to prepare, how to present your piece, how to rehearse your piece, song interpretation, how to pick the right song, etc.) as well as actually performing the piece. Nancy will work with students on their pieces being performed at states (come prepared with music, ipod deck and cd player will be provided) and guide them through the process from beginning to end and give feedback so that they can be their very best the day of the event. She will also weigh in on students' song choices and will (for the first time) be providing lists of songs and background tracks geared for this age group for future use. Within the hour students will learn how to integrate proper vocal technique with effective artistic expression to create a solid foundation for future artistic growth! You won't want to miss this exciting and informative workshop!!
STUNTS AND STAGE COMBAT: Learn the basics of how to make an action packed fight sequence look really great! In this workshop, students will learn some very basic hand to hand stage combat techniques and stunts. Students will also work one on one with an award winning stage combat and stunt cast. By the end they will be put into a fight sequence from a stage show so they can woo their audiences back home! Any one participating in this workshop must be dressed in comfortable clothing that allows the performer to move easily…no bare feet…sneakers only. Please keep in mind that apparel is a safety concern, so students may be turned away at the door if they are dressed inappropriately. Come join the fun!
MIME WORKSHOP:The Mime Workshop is designed for the beginner and intermediate student. It will provide the participants with the following skills.Basic Warm-Up Exercises, designed to stretch and tone the muscles.Isolations of the Body, designed to become acquainted with the basic movement techniques of Mime. Basic Mime Illusions, designed to teach participants the creation of imaginary objects such as walls, windows, doors, ropes, and forces such as push and pull, compensation, balance and slow motion techniques.Hands and Facial Exercises, designed to give participants dexterity and flexibility in the art of creating objects and the skill of reflecting and projecting emotions.Character Creation and Development, designed to teach participants Improvisational skills and storytelling and how to construct strong characters using the technical guidelines of the art form.
VOCAL TECHNIQUE AND DEVELOPMENT FOR THE YOUNG VOICE: Ron Emery will discuss the young, developing voice and problems faced by young singers - showing how to overcome some of these problems by developing good vocal technique. Some of the topics discussed will be BREATHING, VOCALIZING, PLACEMENT, DICTION, VOCAL RANGE and QUALITY.
Acting Audition Preparation: Monologue and Duet Scene selection Material construction from scripts to conform to time limitations and also content Voice components – projection and diction Motivation – why are you onstage to present this material Movement – angles, particularly in Duet Acting. Also how to move across the stage, if necessary (leading with the upstage foot). Makeup Design is Coming: An exciting new IE category is coming to Jr. Thespians; Makeup Design. This workshop is designed to help students no only learn helpful techniques in theatrical makeup design, but give them ideas on how to create a presentation of ideas. Students will learn how to use the mnemonic device H.E.A.R.T.H. to aid in characterization as well as basic techniques in shading and highlighting. Students will be introduced to the use of liquid latex for prosthetics and facial hair. Students will get to see a completed presentation of

Improvisation: Long and Short Form: Students will explore the basics of Improvisational theatre. By the end of this class students should have a grasp of both short and long form improv. Areas to be explored are : Agreement (Yes, and) and characterization (V.A.P.P.O.) will be taught through short form games and exercises.
